The Jonglei State Police has called on local community leaders in Bor to strengthen security cooperation and immediately report gang members threatening the city’s stability, amid a noticeable surge in robbery and theft incidents this week.
First Lieutenant James Akech, spokesperson for the state police, told No. 1 Citizen Daily that criminal gangs are increasingly operating in several residential areas of the city, making it more difficult for law enforcement to track and apprehend them.
“In some cases, information doesn’t reach us in time. A crime may occur, but the delay in reporting it hinders our response,” Akech stated. “We are conducting regular patrols to curb crime, but we urgently need the support and cooperation of the public.”
He emphasized that it is the responsibility of neighborhood leaders to identify any new arrivals in their communities, underlining the importance of citizen vigilance and proactive reporting of suspicious activities.
Akech also pointed out that the gangs behind the recent unrest include groups known as “West Coast” and “Ganya-Talent,” whose members have been implicated in a series of thefts targeting residents over the past few weeks.
He concluded by calling for unified efforts between security agencies and the local population to combat criminal activities and maintain peace and security in Bor.
