The South Sudan Bar Association Council issued a decision to audit and verify the unification of the list of lawyers. The Council held a press conference this morning, explaining that the audit and verification committee concluded that the audit and verification of the list of lawyers was adopted and approved during the South Sudan Bar Association Council meeting number 11 on January 31, 2025.
The Secretary-General of the South Sudan Bar Association, Lawyer Thomas Jada James, stated that the committee noticed various standards and requirements for determining the seniority of members of the Bar Association after reviewing all files received from the previous administrations of the association. This was done to ensure compliance with Article (12) of the Lawyers Law of 2013. The files from previous administrations were unified to standardize the list.
The statement added that seniority was determined based on the date of registration with the Bar Association, including those who registered when the country was part of Sudan. In cases where seniority could not be determined based on the registration date, the Council used alphabetical order.
The Bar Association Council made several decisions, including publishing the draft list of lawyers. All lawyers are advised to verify their names on the draft list displayed on the notice boards at the Bar Association’s headquarters, the judiciary, daily newspapers, and the Bar Association’s social media platforms. Lawyers whose names were excluded or missing are requested to file a written complaint to the Chairman of the Council to have their names included in the list.
Lawyers with specific issues concerning their names are required to comply by submitting missing documents or verifying their documents within 30 days from the date of the notice’s publication. The Secretary-General of the Bar Association is also asked to gather all missing documents and correct any inaccurate information as part of the ongoing renewal process.
After the mentioned 30-day period from the date of this notice, the list of lawyers will be considered final, and any lawyers whose names do not appear will have their licenses revoked.
