The Presidency of the Republic held an extensive meeting, chaired by President Salva Kiir Mayardit, to ease tensions in Nasir County, Upper Nile State. The meeting was attended by First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar, Vice President for Economic Affairs Dr. James Wani Igga, Vice President for Service Cluster Josephine Lagu, and leaders of political parties that are signatories to the revitalized peace agreement.
The attendees agreed on the necessity of ensuring the peaceful and unobstructed deployment of SSPDF soldiers heading to Nasir.


Minister of Information and government spokesperson, Michael Makuei Lueth, stated that the leaders had agreed to cooperate in the interest of the nation. He clarified that the deployment aims to replace troops that have been stationed in Nasir for an extended period, emphasizing the need for local communities along the route from Malakal to Nasir to collaborate.
Minister of Petroleum and a prominent member of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-in-Opposition (SPLM-IO), Puot Kang, stressed the importance of local cooperation, urging residents to ensure the safe passage of forces to their barracks in Nasir.

Civil society member Edmund Yakani described the meeting as positive and cordial, noting that its objective was to raise public awareness about the importance of peace in the country.
The Presidency urged citizens to refrain from spreading harmful propaganda on social media that could fuel the conflict. Instead, it called for responsible communication to contribute to fostering a peaceful atmosphere.
