President Salva Kiir Mayardit discussed with officials from the United Nations Mission in South Sudan the challenges facing the country, the government’s role in ensuring peace and stability, and the organization of next year’s elections.
According to media reports, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Nicholas Haysom, and his deputy, Guang Cong, made an appeal during a meeting with President Salva Kiir Mayardit last Wednesday. The meeting addressed the key challenges facing South Sudan and the government’s role in ensuring stability and peace as the elections approach.
Both sides reviewed the progress made in the “Tumaini” initiative aimed at securing a comprehensive peace process in South Sudan.
They urged all parties involved to reach a consensus and achieve a comprehensive agreement that could save the country from its current situation.
Haysom noted that the ongoing crisis in Sudan exacerbates humanitarian challenges and poses threats to regional stability.
The discussions emphasized the importance of continued cooperation between the government, the UN mission, and other partners to address fundamental issues as the country strives to enhance peace and consolidate democracy.
