Report: Al-Naeim Mubarak Kuol
The Minister of Health, Dr. Yolanda Awel Deng, along with the UN Resident Coordinator in South Sudan, Anita Kiki, visited the areas affected by the cholera outbreak in Upper Nile State to assess the situation and observe the conditions on the ground.
The visit included treatment centers such as the Assosa Primary Health Care Center, the Loakat, Refugee Center, and the Protection of Civilians (POC) site in Malakal.
Upper Nile State is facing a cholera outbreak, with over 1,076 reported cases and 8 deaths. The city of Malakal has been particularly hard-hit, accounting for the majority of the infections.

Minister Awel emphasized to the media the need for a coordinated response from all partners and pledged continuous support for health workers on the frontlines.
The government and health partners are working tirelessly to contain the outbreak, and several key achievements and strategies have been put in place to curb the spread. These include the establishment of treatment centers with 117 beds in key locations for treating patients, the provision of over 1.5 million liters of safe drinking water daily for more than 95,000 people, and the implementation of vital health awareness campaigns to educate the public on cholera prevention.
