Opposition parties in South Sudan have confirmed that negotiations will resume from where they left off, emphasizing their commitment to peace efforts.
The spokesperson for the South Sudan Opposition Movement Alliance (SSOMA), Lual Dau, stated:
“We now have the opportunity to formally initiate the initiative thanks to this meeting with the opposition. After that, we will move on to a more serious session where the government will respond to the protocols discussed and agreed upon by the opposition.”
“We are pleased to welcome the government delegation to the Tumaini headquarters here at the Glee Hotel after a very long wait. However, let me state clearly that we remain committed to the opposition, SSOMA, and the other opposition parties.”He added
The South Sudan government delegation, led by General Kuol Manyang, Senior Advisor to the President, has arrived at the negotiation venue. The delegation engaged in intensive meetings with Kenyan mediators regarding the negotiation agendas and preparations required to return to the table. Talks had stalled due to claims by political parties within the Revitalized Peace Agreement group, which forms the Transitional Government of National Unity, that the dissenting groups aim to make the Tumaini initiative an alternative to the revitalized peace agreement.
