WHO Implements Strategic Delivery of Medical Aid to Critical Areas

The World Health Organization (WHO), South Sudan office, has secured the delivery of essential medical aid to critical areas ahead of the rainy season.

As part of its strategic plan, WHO has prepositioned approximately 121.2 tons of medicines and essential supplies in Wau (Western Bahr el Ghazal), Malakal and Renk (Upper Nile State), and Bentiu (Unity State)—regions that often face ongoing health crises during the rainy season. This initiative aims to ensure that aid reaches response areas promptly, targeting a population of no less than 500,000 people.

The move is designed to guarantee fast and effective delivery of humanitarian assistance to these vulnerable regions. The initiative has been made possible with support from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) and the EU Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid.

WHO has handed over designated shares of the medicines to local representatives for onward distribution in coordination with partners, aiming to complete the deliveries before the onset of the rainy season this year.
