South Sudan Participates in the Second Ministerial Conference on the Khartoum Process on Migration in the Horn of Africa and the Mediterranean

Ambassador Monday Semaya K. Kumba, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (prior to his appointment as Minister), represented the Republic of South Sudan at the Second Ministerial Conference on the Khartoum Process regarding migration in the Horn of Africa and the Mediterranean region.

The conference was held in collaboration between the African Union (AU) and the European Union (EU), with the participation of member states in developing joint strategies to address migration issues.

During the conference, Ambassador Semaya delivered a statement in which he emphasized South Sudan’s prominent role as one of the founding members of the Khartoum Process. He reviewed the country’s comprehensive contributions during its chairmanship of the process in 2022–2023, including sustainable solutions proposed to address irregular migration.

On the sidelines of the conference, Ambassador Monday held bilateral meetings with the Foreign Ministers of:

  • The Arab Republic of Egypt
  • The Federal Republic of Somalia
  • The Republic of Sudan
  • The Federal Republic of Germany

He also met with the Project Coordinator of the Africa-EU ICMPD-MMD Grant Facility, which is dedicated to the Republic of South Sudan and aims to support migration and development projects.
