The First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, held a meeting in his office with the U.S. Ambassador to South Sudan, Michael J. Adler.The two sides primarily discussed issues related to the 2018 Revitalised Peace Agreement.
They addressed key topics concerning public financial management, transparency in public revenues, the Tumaini Initiative, and various aspects of the political and civic space as part of the agreement’s implementation.

Tumaini Initiative
Regarding the Tumaini Initiative, Dr. Machar expressed his satisfaction with the return of all opposition groups to the negotiations, saying: “We would be happy to see them joining the government for inclusive participation.”
He emphasized that the Tumaini Initiative should complement the Revitalised Agreement.

Supporting South Sudan
After the meeting, Ambassador Adler gave a statement to the media, affirming the strong and ongoing commitment of the United States government to support the people of South Sudan.In turn,
Ambassador Adler urged the South Sudanese government to enhance transparency regarding public revenues, enabling the allocation of funds for essential services such as healthcare and education, as well as ensuring the timely payment of salaries and arrears.Ambassador Adler also called on all parties, both signatory and non-signatory, to support the Nairobi talks fully to expand peace, political, and civic space within the country.
