The Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNA) in its session chaired by Speaker Jemma Nunu Kumba has unanimously passed the 2024-25 budget.
# This came after extensive deliberations on the Finance and Appropriations Bills presented last week by Michael Ayuen Johnson, Chairman of the Standing Specialized Committee on Finance and Economic Planning, and Dingtiel Ayuen Kur, Chairman of the Parliamentary Legislation Committee.
# Parliament urged the Ministry of Finance and Planning to consider the fresh request made by the blocs for a supplementary budget upon the resumption of oil production and export from Blocks 3 and 7 in Dar Site. In her keynote address to MPs, Speaker Jemma Nunu Kumba stressed the importance of paying arrears of salaries and benefits to civil servants and uniformed forces.
The Minister of Finance and Planning, Dr Marial Dongren Ater, reiterated his commitment to work closely with Parliament to ensure the effective implementation of the 2024-25 budget.
The third reading report of the 2024-25 budget, presented by Michael Ayuen Johnson, directs the Minister of Finance and Planning to submit all loans to Parliament for approval in accordance with the Public Financial Management and Accountability Act and the Constitution.
Before approving the budget, Parliament also directed the Ministry of Finance and Planning to pay 38 months of salary and wage arrears to foreign missions.
#Parliament urged the Ministry of Finance to work in coordination with Parliament to impose sanctions on institutions that fail to remit revenues to the government treasury in accordance with the Public Financial Management Act.
