The Governor of Central Equatoria State oversees the removal of street vendors from the Custom Market

Report: Al-Naeim Mubarak Kuol

The Governor of Central Equatoria State, General Augustino Jadallah, supervised the implementation of the decision to remove street vendors from the Custom Market in order to ensure the opening of roads and passageways within the market to ease congestion and reduce traffic jams.

The Governor was accompanied by the Mayor of Juba Municipality, government officials, and executive officers. Following the fire at the Kongokongo Market, the state government ordered the removal of street vendors and stalls along roads in front of shops to facilitate movement, enabling authorities to respond quickly in case of emergencies and accidents within the market.

The Governor, along with the Mayor of Juba, walked through the Custom Market where vendors had encroached on the main roads, causing traffic congestion, road chaos, and littering in areas not designated for roads.

Governor Jadallah instructed the street vendors not to encroach on the public roads again, warning that their shops would be demolished and their goods confiscated. He also issued strict directives to the Juba Municipality management to enforce the state decision to remove street vendors from the roads and to continue routine work in collecting waste from markets to maintain road cleanliness.
