The Transitional National Assembly Refers the General Budget to the Third Reading Stage

In joint ordinary session No. 5/2024, chaired by Speaker Ms. Jemma Nunu Kumba, members of the Transitional National Assembly discussed the Draft General Budget and the Appropriation Bill at the second reading stage

Assembly members reviewed the three documents presented by the Minister of Finance and National Planning, Dr. Marial Dongrin Ater, provided their remarks on the draft budget, and emphasized the importance of completing the overdue budget procedures.In response to some questions raised by the members, particularly regarding the funding of the draft budget,

Minister Ater proposed increasing non-oil revenues to reach the projected target, the possible resumption of oil production and export by Dar Petroleum Company, along with concessional loans and grants from international development partners to cover the financial deficit in the budget.

The Speaker of the Transitional National Assembly, Ms. Jemma Nunu Kumba, referred the draft budget for the fiscal year 2024/2025 to the third reading stage, with the date to be set later on the Assembly’s agenda.
