South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo have signed a memorandum of understanding regarding the borders between the two countries and issued a joint statement.
The signing ceremony took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Department of Borders, with the participation of members from the Joint Technical Committee.David Nailo Mayo, the Chairperson of South Sudan’s National Boundary Committee, congratulated the committee for its significant work, stating: “The Republic of South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo have maintained peace since their independence. We seek to preserve this peaceful relationship between our two countries and develop joint infrastructure projects.”Additionally, Hon. Mayo mentioned plans for the construction of highways to facilitate trade between the two countries and the establishment of customs points that would generate revenue for both nations.
Professor Celestin Nguya Ndila, the Technical Director responsible for Demarcation at the Permanent Commission of the Ministry of the Interior in the Democratic Republic of Congo, praised the experts from both sides.He confirmed that this process will contribute to the prosperity of both countries and noted that the demarcation process requires careful attention to ensure benefits for both the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan.
