The newly appointed Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the South Sudan Revenue Authority (SSRA), David Deng Athorbei, has officially assumed office, pledging to strengthen oversight mechanisms and improve the institution\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The handover ceremony took place at the SSRA headquarters in the capital, Juba, in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning, Tokoruk Tok, along with senior officials of the authority and members of the Board of Directors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his remarks on the occasion, Athorbei reaffirmed his commitment to placing national interests at the forefront of his priorities, while supporting government efforts in economic development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe shall consolidate available resources to serve the state, and we must work hard to ensure that South Sudan moves in the right direction,\u201d he said, adding: \u201cI place the interests of the country first, and I extend my gratitude to His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit for the trust placed in me through this appointment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For his part, the outgoing Board Chairperson, Stephen Dhieu Dau, welcomed the transition, expressing confidence in the new leadership and calling for strengthened teamwork to effectively carry out the Authority\u2019s mandate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dau stressed that the responsibilities of the Board are clearly defined under the South Sudan Revenue Authority Act of 2016 (as amended), which provides the legal framework for good governance and institutional independence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI leave this position grateful for the opportunity to serve, satisfied with what has been achieved, and I welcome the transition. I will continue to serve my country in any capacity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the Commissioner General of the Authority, Ambassador Mon Deng Ajuet, reaffirmed the executive management\u2019s commitment to full cooperation with the new Board, emphasizing the importance of coordination in enhancing institutional performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe will work hand in hand with the Board and ensure that the Authority is managed in accordance with the law. My team and I are fully ready to cooperate,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his remarks, the Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning, Tokoruk Tok, reiterated the government\u2019s support for the SSRA, noting that the transition reflects institutional continuity beyond individuals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He stated that \u201cleadership is a responsibility and a trust that must be exercised with integrity, and institutions endure while leadership changes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further called for increased transparency within the tax system, stressing that building trust with taxpayers is essential for improving compliance levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
