The President of the Republic of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, has called on citizens to remain calm, strengthen national unity, and focus on achieving peace, as he presided over the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed government officials at the State House in the capital, Juba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the ceremony, Peter Charleman Kawach was appointed as Presidential Advisor for Peace. A prominent political figure and member of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly, his appointment is expected to support ongoing peace efforts, particularly in the Upper Nile region. Dr. Joseph Nguen Monytuil also took the oath of office as Governor of Unity State, in a move reflecting the leadership\u2019s confidence in his ability to further promote stability and advance development in the state.<\/p>\n\n\n

The appointments also included the swearing-in of three deputy governors: Isaac Luka Manga of Lakes State, William Gatjang Giing of Unity State, and Karlo Andrew Akwo Ajert of Eastern Equatoria State, as part of the government\u2019s commitment to inclusive governance and the implementation of the peace agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his remarks, President Kiir stressed the need to prioritize peace and improve service delivery, urging the newly appointed officials to work in a spirit of cooperation and to strengthen social cohesion among all segments of society. He emphasized the importance of unity among the signatories to the peace agreement and called for collective efforts to overcome current challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vice President for Infrastructure, Taban Deng Gai, urged officials to focus on reconciliation and peacebuilding efforts, highlighting the need to remove obstacles hindering economic activity, including road checkpoints in Unity State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Presidential Advisor on Security Affairs, Tut Gatluak Manime, called for intensified efforts to stabilize Unity and Upper Nile states and to strengthen relations with neighboring communities. SPLM Secretary-General Akol Paul Koordit also commended the appointments, emphasizing the importance of integrity and political cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the same context, Minister of Peacebuilding and Acting Chairperson of SPLM-IO, Stephen Par Kuol, reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the implementation of the peace agreement and working collectively to achieve lasting stability in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
