The President of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, has reaffirmed his government\u2019s commitment to continue preparations for the general elections scheduled for December 2026, stressing the importance of providing the necessary support to ensure a successful electoral process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The remarks came during a meeting held in Juba between President Kiir and the Chairperson of the National Elections Commission, Professor Abednego Akok Kacoul, where the two discussed the progress of ongoing preparations for the upcoming elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the meeting, the head of the commission briefed the president on the technical and administrative arrangements currently underway, noting that plans are in place to announce the official election date in June. He also indicated that the commission is preparing to launch nationwide civic education campaigns alongside voter registration, which will be carried out simultaneously given that only about eight months remain before the elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Professor Akok explained that the elections will take place across 102 geographical constituencies distributed among the country\u2019s ten states and three administrative areas. The discussions also addressed several technical matters related to constituency demarcation and the practical steps required to ensure that the electoral process proceeds in an orderly manner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For his part, President Kiir emphasized the need to accelerate preparations, affirming that the government will provide the necessary resources and logistical support to enable the commission to conduct the elections on schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
