The South Sudan Red Cross Society (SSRC) celebrated two significant occasions in recent days at its headquarters in the capital, Juba: the official inauguration of the Society\u2019s National Warehouse and the farewell of Mr. Mohamed Babiker, Head of Delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) \u2013 Juba Cluster, covering South Sudan, Uganda, and Tanzania. This was announced by the Society through its social media platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was attended by the leadership of the South Sudan Red Cross Society, representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and several partners. Mr. Mohamed Babiker led the official opening ceremony of the National Warehouse, a strategic logistics facility expected to strengthen storage capacity and enhance humanitarian response across the country. The new facility also includes a water yard designed to support nearby local communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the inauguration, a farewell ceremony was held in honor of the departing Head of Delegation, marked by an atmosphere of appreciation and heartfelt emotions. In his address, Mr. Babiker spoke about the depth of the humanitarian and professional experience he gained during his one-year assignment in South Sudan, describing the country as a place he is proud to call \u201chome.\u201d He also expressed his gratitude to the ICRC in South Sudan and the Partner National Societies for their continuous support, while calling for strengthened collaboration to further enhance the performance of the South Sudan Red Cross Society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his tenure, Mr. Babiker played a pivotal role in supporting several strategic achievements for the Society, most notably the establishment and launch of the National Warehouse, the improvement of internet connectivity across all 21 SSRC branches, support for the organization of youth camps and the empowerment of volunteers, as well as efforts to strengthen partnerships and institutional capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For his part, the Secretary General of the South Sudan Red Cross Society, Mr. John Lobor, reflected on his shared journey with Mr. Babiker within the Red Cross Movement, which spans more than 27 years. He noted that they began as volunteers and gradually progressed through various roles within the Movement to assume leadership positions. Representatives of the ICRC and partners also expressed their appreciation for Mr. Babiker\u2019s leadership, praising his humility and impactful contributions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
