Gen. James Lieliy Kuol Diew<\/strong>, on Monday officially opened a workshop titled <strong>\u201cReview, Harmonization, and Proclamation of Nuer Customary Laws\u201d<\/strong>, organized by the <strong>Naath Institute (NAATH INSTITUTE)<\/strong> in collaboration with the <strong>United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS)<\/strong>, at the county headquarters in Mayom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The workshop was attended by several senior county officials, including the Acting Executive Director, Directors of Agriculture, Information and Postal Services, and Revenue, as well as the Paramount Chief of the County Court, the Chairwoman of the Women\u2019s League, the Chairman of Bul Youth, Payam Administrators, traditional chiefs representing various Payams, youth leaders, and elders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a statement released by the <strong>Commissioner\u2019s Office Media Unit<\/strong>, Commissioner Kuol emphasized the <strong>importance of the workshop in revising and correcting certain customary laws<\/strong>, noting that the discussions would focus on key areas related to marriage, killing, and injury cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Marriage<\/strong> section covers: Penalties for eloped girls, official marriage dowry, divorce procedures, punishment for girls pregnant outside marriage, custody and child handover after separation, dowry for twin girls, sexual misconduct with married women, rape cases, cheating, and other related social issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Killing and Injury<\/strong> section includes: Intentional and unintentional murder, inter-clan killings, revenge killings, theft penalties, cow seizure penalties, and other related customary offenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his closing remarks, Commissioner Kuol stressed that <strong>the Bul community should serve as the foundation for drafting the Nuer customary laws this time, instead of Pangak<\/strong>, asserting that this initiative aims to <strong>establish a unified and coherent customary legal framework<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mayom \u2013 Al-Wadi Newspaper The Commissioner of Mayom County, Maj.
