The National Minister of Health, Hon. Sarah Cleto Rial, held an official meeting with the United Kingdom\u2019s Ambassador to South Sudan, H.E. David Ashley, to discuss enhancing investment opportunities in the health sector and supporting humanitarian and health efforts targeting the country\u2019s most vulnerable populations.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to an official statement published on the Ministry’s Facebook page, the meeting focused on issues related to nutrition and the expansion of basic health services, as well as improving the quality of healthcare at both the community and facility levels. The two parties also discussed ways to strengthen equitable access to healthcare, particularly in remote areas and among displaced communities, in addition to reducing maternal and child mortality rates in both the medium and long term.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of its ongoing support for South Sudan\u2019s health sector, the United Kingdom announced its commitment to equip 8,000 Boma Health Workers with bicycles and essential medical kits \u2014 a move expected to significantly increase access to healthcare services for over one million children annually. The initiative includes treatment for malaria, diarrhoea, pneumonia, and screening for severe acute malnutrition.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UK also revealed additional funding to upgrade 11 government-run health facilities across six states. The planned upgrades will include improvements to water and sanitation infrastructure, maternity wards, operating theatres, and staff housing, all aimed at ensuring the retention of skilled health workers in rural and hard-to-reach areas.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the newly announced initiatives, the UK will also provide maternal and newborn health equipment, in addition to emergency referral boats for flood-affected regions \u2014 a measure designed to reduce delays in accessing care and improve survival rates in critical cases.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
