Kenyan President William Ruto affirmed in a speech delivered during the ongoing United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York that Africa is capable of and must finance its own health future. He emphasized that ambition, innovation, and unity are key to achieving a comprehensive African health system that ensures high-quality, affordable healthcare \u2014 funded by Africa, for the people of Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement published on his official Facebook page, Ruto stressed the urgent need for reform in the global health architecture, which he described as “still unbalanced and unfair.” He asserted that Africa must no longer be the last in line when it comes to accessing vaccines, diagnostics, and treatments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Kenyan president also highlighted the importance of fair pricing for medicines and healthcare services, genuine technology transfer to African countries, inclusive research and development, and sustained investment in the continent\u2019s pharmaceutical and medical manufacturing capacities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ruto\u2019s remarks came during the “Uniting for Global Health Security” meeting held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the same context, President Ruto reaffirmed Kenya\u2019s commitment to the African Leaders Malaria Alliance and its continued support for the \u201cZero Malaria Starts with Me\u201d campaign, noting that such efforts reflect Africa\u2019s determination to take the lead in building a safe and sustainable health future for its people.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
