The Governor of Jonglei State<\/strong>, Dr. Riek Gai Kok<\/strong>, received a high-level government delegation<\/strong> led by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management<\/strong>, Hon. Albino Akol Atak Mayom<\/strong>, during an official visit to the city of Bor<\/strong>. The visit aimed to assess the humanitarian situation in areas at risk of flooding<\/strong> and potential cholera outbreaks<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The delegation included senior government officials and ministers from various sectors, among them:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Hon. Mary Akech Bior<\/strong> \u2013 Technical Advisor at the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Madam Kiki Gbeho<\/strong> \u2013 Representative of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    They were joined by several other senior officials and representatives of UN agencies<\/strong> operating in South Sudan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In a press statement, Governor Riek Gai Kok affirmed that the visit aimed to enhance coordination<\/strong> between the government and international partners to ensure an effective humanitarian response\u2014particularly in light of growing concerns about widespread flooding<\/strong> and the potential spread of cholera<\/strong> in various parts of the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    This visit is part of broader efforts by the Government of South Sudan to strengthen collaboration<\/strong> between government institutions and international organizations, with the goal of protecting vulnerable communities<\/strong> and improving the response to natural disasters and health emergencies<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
