Renowned Ugandan musician Joseph Mayanja<\/strong>, popularly known by his stage name Jose Chameleone<\/strong>, has called on the Government of Western Equatoria State<\/strong> to allocate land for the establishment of a music and arts school<\/strong> aimed at nurturing local talent and empowering youth through creative and artistic education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His appeal came during the official celebration of South Sudan\u2019s 14th Independence Anniversary<\/strong>, held in Yambio<\/strong> on July 9<\/strong>, according to a report published by Radio Tamazuj<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking to attendees, Chameleone stated:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want to just come, perform, and leave… I want to leave a legacy, and that legacy begins with building a school for music and arts in Western Equatoria.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The Ugandan artist noted that this visit was his second<\/strong> to South Sudan, having previously performed in Juba<\/strong> and Yei<\/strong> in 2002<\/strong>. He said that experience inspired him to contribute more meaningfully, particularly in the field of music education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chameleone directed his appeal to Western Equatoria\u2019s Acting Governor, Daniel Badagbu Rimbasa<\/strong>, urging the state to allocate land for the envisioned academy. He added:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy goal is to see Western Equatoria produce professional musicians and producers who are admired even in Juba.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

He also called for unity among African peoples<\/strong>, saying:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are not only Ugandans and South Sudanese \u2014 we are Africans. Let\u2019s push Africa forward together.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Widespread Support and Community Backing<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Chameleone\u2019s proposal received warm praise from local artists and community leaders<\/strong> in Western Equatoria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local singer Young Sugar Daddy<\/strong>, also known as Bebe Wine<\/strong>, voiced his full support, stating:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDr. Jose Chameleone is an African icon \u2014 every child knows him. His initiative inspires the music industry, not just in Western Equatoria but across the nation.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Local female artist Tasha K<\/strong>, who began her musical journey in Yambio, described the visit as historic<\/strong>, saying:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHaving the Mayanja family in Western Equatoria is unprecedented. It\u2019s a special moment for us as we celebrate Independence Day. I am honored to stand beside a legendary artist.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

For his part, Azande King Atoroba Peni Rikito Gbudue<\/strong> encouraged Chameleone to act as a cultural ambassador<\/strong> for the kingdom, urging him to collaborate with and mentor local artists:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCan you help raise the standard of our musicians so they can reach your level, not only within the Azande Kingdom but beyond?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Governor Rimbasa<\/strong> also praised Chameleone\u2019s dedication to youth empowerment, emphasizing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWestern Equatoria is full of talent. Our youth need support, exposure, and guidance. Your presence and encouragement will be a great motivator for them.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

It is worth noting that Chameleone\u2019s visit was organized by Don Eddie Promotion<\/strong>, a South Sudanese event management company specializing in music and cultural activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His initiative is seen as a promising step<\/strong> toward strengthening regional cooperation through arts and culture<\/strong>, with growing hopes that the proposed music and arts school will soon come to life \u2014 paving the way for a new generation of artists and creatives in Western Equatoria and across South Sudan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
