In a significant step toward resolving the long-standing border dispute between Jonglei State and the Greater Pibor Administrative Area, leaders from both regions met in the capital, Juba, during the Inter-Communal Governance Structures (ICGS) meeting, aimed at fostering dialogue and mutual understanding among local communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the conclusion of the meeting held on July 3, 2025, the Governor of Jonglei State, Dr. Riek Gai Kok, reaffirmed his government\u2019s commitment to a peaceful and lasting resolution to the dispute. He noted that the prolonged conflict has deepened economic hardship, eroded social cohesion, and undermined security in the border areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“As a state government, we are fully committed to ending this conflict through peaceful means,”<\/strong> Governor Kok said in a press statement.
“We call on all affected communities to embrace peace, as we continue working toward a sustainable solution that will restore stability to the region.”<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He stressed that coordination among all stakeholders is crucial to ending violence and recurring disputes, adding that strengthening security and governance structures remains a top priority for his administration in the coming period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peter Guzulu Maze also expressed his appreciation to Governor Kok for his leadership and initiative in launching the dialogue, describing him as “a dedicated leader committed to the welfare of his people”<\/strong> and to improving the socio-economic conditions across Jonglei State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Traditional leaders who participated in the meeting praised the governor’s efforts, calling him “a symbol of hope, unity, and peace.”<\/strong> They also urged for clear demarcation of boundaries between local communities, stating that this would help prevent further bloodshed, reduce tensions, and protect lives and property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The chiefs called on the government to accelerate infrastructure projects and pledged their full support for road construction initiatives that would link communities and strengthen peace and stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Opening roads will not only bring essential services closer to the people, but it will also foster unity among the various communities,”<\/strong> said one local chief. “We are ready to work hand in hand with the government to ensure every area of our state is accessible and secure.”<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
