{"id":5201,"date":"2025-05-27T16:10:45","date_gmt":"2025-05-27T14:10:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/derawetmedia.com\/?p=5201"},"modified":"2025-05-27T16:10:47","modified_gmt":"2025-05-27T14:10:47","slug":"gpoc-awards-full-scholarships-to-10-students-from-oil-producing-areas-to-study-abroad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/derawetmedia.com\/?p=5201","title":{"rendered":"GPOC Awards Full Scholarships to 10 Students from Oil-Producing Areas to Study Abroad"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Juba \u2013 Al-Wadi Newspaper<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Greater Pioneer Operating Company (GPOC) announced on Monday the awarding of full scholarships to ten students from Unity State and the Ruweng Administrative Area, enabling them to pursue university studies abroad in a variety of scientific disciplines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to company management, this initiative is part of GPOC\u2019s corporate social responsibility program and aims to empower youth from oil-producing communities by providing access to quality education in countries such as Rwanda, Kenya, China, and India. The selected fields of study include petroleum engineering, medicine, and information technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first group of students is set to depart the capital Juba on Tuesday morning, heading to Kigali, Rwanda, marking the start of the educational program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During a farewell ceremony held at the company\u2019s headquarters, GPOC Vice President Mr. Beny Ngor Chol emphasized the importance of investing in education as a cornerstone for community development.<br>\u201cAt GPOC, together with our partners, we believe that education is the path to changing mindsets and achieving real development,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chol encouraged the students to represent South Sudan honorably abroad and to take their academic journey seriously. \u201cYou will be ambassadors for the nation. Gain the knowledge that will enable you to compete in the global job market upon your return,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Victoria Paul, Acting Director of Community Development at the Ministry of Petroleum, advised the students to maintain their cultural identity during their studies abroad. \u201cYour culture is your identity\u2014preserve it,\u201d she cautioned, warning against adopting foreign practices that may compromise their values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also speaking at the event, Badia Maker Paul, Minister of General Education in the Ruweng Administrative Area, praised the initiative by GPOC and the Ministry of Petroleum, describing it as a vital step toward building an educated generation capable of leading the country\u2019s future.<br>\u201cEducation is the foundation of any renaissance, and this initiative marks a promising beginning,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>James Tang Gelang, Education Coordinator in Unity State, urged the students to strive for excellence and remain open to learning from different cultures. He highlighted the experience as a valuable opportunity for integration and personal growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking on behalf of the parents, Samuel Kuang expressed his pride in the initiative, describing the scholarships as an investment in the future of local communities and a true utilization of the country\u2019s human and natural resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, student Garkuoth Mawich, one of the scholarship recipients, expressed deep gratitude to GPOC and the Ministry of Petroleum.
