The report highlights a <strong>51% increase in the number of victims affected by traditional conflict parties and other armed groups<\/strong>, alongside a similarly alarming rise in <strong>conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV)<\/strong> cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery aligncenter has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1425\" height=\"1781\" data-id=\"4324\" src=\"https:\/\/derawetmedia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/jhhhh.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4324\" srcset=\"https:\/\/derawetmedia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/jhhhh.jpg 1425w, https:\/\/derawetmedia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/jhhhh-240x300.jpg 240w, https:\/\/derawetmedia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/jhhhh-768x960.jpg 768w, https:\/\/derawetmedia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/jhhhh-1229x1536.jpg 1229w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1425px) 100vw, 1425px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Between <strong>January and December 2024<\/strong>, UNMISS documented <strong>1,019 violent incidents<\/strong> affecting <strong>3,657 civilians<\/strong> \u2014 including <strong>1,561 killed, 1,299 injured, 551 abducted<\/strong>, and <strong>246 subjected to sexual violence related to the conflict<\/strong>. Compared to 2023, this reflects a <strong>15% increase in incidents<\/strong> (from 885 to 1,019) and a <strong>9% rise in the number of victims<\/strong> (from 3,340 to 3,657).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Community-based militias and local defense groups<\/strong> were responsible for the vast majority of the violence, accounting for <strong>79% of total victims<\/strong>. <strong>Warrap State<\/strong> reported the highest number of deaths and injuries, while <strong>Western Equatoria State<\/strong> recorded the most cases of sexual violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most <strong>abductions<\/strong> occurred in <strong>Central Equatoria State<\/strong>, allegedly carried out by splinter factions of the <strong>National Salvation Front<\/strong>, followed by <strong>Jonglei State<\/strong>, where <strong>Murle armed groups<\/strong> are believed to be responsible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Nicholas Haysom<\/strong>, Head of UNMISS and Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for South Sudan, stressed the <strong>urgent need for coordinated action<\/strong> by national, state, and local authorities, as well as local communities, to address the root causes of conflict and seek peaceful solutions.
