The Libyan Football Federation officially announced on Tuesday the appointment of Senegalese coach Aliou Ciss\u00e9 as the new head coach of the Libyan national team for a two-year term, replacing Nasser Al-Hadhiri.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The federation stated on its Facebook account: “We welcome the best coach in Africa, Aliou Ciss\u00e9, as the new head coach of the Libyan national team until 2027.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n It was also revealed that Ciss\u00e9 will be officially presented to the media on March 13 in Tripoli before beginning his journey with the Mediterranean Knights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n His appointment comes ahead of Libya\u2019s crucial matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, where they will face Angola and Cameroon on March 20 and 25, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Libya currently sits second in Group D with seven points, just one point behind leaders Cameroon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n With Ciss\u00e9 at the helm, Libya aims to secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup and earn a spot in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be hosted jointly by Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya. Libya has not qualified for the tournament since 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ciss\u00e9\u2019s notable achievements as a coach include leading Senegal to victory in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations and reaching the final in 2019, where they lost to Algeria.
