The South Sudan spokesperson and minister of information and communication, Postal Service Michael Makuei Lueth, has reaffirmed the government’s demand for the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNIMISS) to leave the airport vicinity of Juba International Airport to relocate their office to the land granted to them by the government.
Makuai accuses the accused of not complying with the government directives; he describes the UN as intransigent in terms of the level of compliance, assuring that UNIMISS is just a guest in South Sudan and should not behave like that.
He stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation issued a warning to the mission to move out of the vicinity.
There is a dispute between us and these people over the airport; these people have refused to move from there since about four or five years ago, he told reporters.
We have a conflict with UN here because we told them that the things they are occupying we need for two reasons: one part of it belongs to individuals, and the other part of it belongs to the airport, and we are expanding the airport, so please move out of this place.
The United Nations mission in South Sudan was established by the resolution of the UN Security Council after the independence of South Sudan on 9 July 2011 to consolidate peace and security and to help in the development of the country.
There are also intransigent people; these are other people who have also decided to be intransigent; they don\u2019t want to move out of the airport. Makuei stressed about the united mission.
Additionally, he said we have been saying you are our employees because we are members of the UN. This is number two: you are our guests. Where is it in the world where a guest comes and says, I must be here and not there if it is not in South Sudan?
We are in crisis with the UN; they are insisting and refusing to move out of that place. Meanwhile, they have a big land over there in Jebel; they don\u2019t want to go there because they want to be near the airport.
