He also stated that the money for the 2024 recess will be paid shortly.<br>\u201cOur parliament delayed operating due to those challenges I mentioned, and this time around, we are going to resume our duties as soon as possible,\u201d he said. \u201cThe parliament will reopen in two weeks after the governor returns from Juba.\u201d<br>A civil society activist in Unity State, Dr. Riek Koang, has encouraged parliament&#8217;s leadership to continue work and give services to the state&#8217;s communities.<br>\u201cThere are many challenges in the state that need to be addressed by the assembly, like the recent outbreak of cholera that killed over 300 people across the Unity State, including our national MP, who died when he decided to visit the state for the first time since the outbreak of conflict in 2013,\u201d he said. \u201cThe executive cannot work without the legislative assembly because things like development will not go well.\u201d<br>Dr. Koang continued, &#8220;We condemned the delay in reopening the state parliament.&#8221;<br>Meanwhile, Kueth Tut Kuol, a Unity State native, said it is impossible that the state parliament has not met in almost a year. However, they should address the issues that ordinary people experience.<br>\u201cIt is very unfortunate that our parliament has spent one full year without sitting. As citizens of this state, we always ask ourselves why the parliament is not working, and there is no right answer from the MPs who went on recess,\u201d he said. \u201cI think there are things that need to be presented by the leadership of parliament, such as cholera, floods, lack of clean water, and development projects, and all these challenges need to Be address. he spoke<br>Unity state has been facing many challenges since the war broke out in the year 2013, including flooding that engulf the state and led to the mass displacement of the citizen to the capital city juba due to the lack of residential areas,<br>Beside dealing with significant issues related to violence, insecurity, and inter-communal conflicts. The region has experienced persistent violence, including cattle raiding, revenge attacks, and abductions.<br>Recently, efforts have been made to restore peace and stability through peace forums organized by the state government under the current state leadership and United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS). These forums aim to rebuild trust and resolve long-standing grievances between communities.
