{"id":2974,"date":"2025-02-11T17:06:33","date_gmt":"2025-02-11T15:06:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/derawetmedia.com\/?p=2974"},"modified":"2025-02-11T17:06:35","modified_gmt":"2025-02-11T15:06:35","slug":"world-bank-provides-7-million-to-support-flood-victims-in-northern-bahr-el-ghazal-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/derawetmedia.com\/?p=2974","title":{"rendered":"World Bank Provides $7 Million to Support Flood Victims in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>News Agencies<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The World Bank has announced financial support amounting to $7 million for the flood-affected population in the Aweil East and Aweil South counties in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State, South Sudan.<br>The funds will be used for projects aimed at enhancing the resilience of the affected communities, with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) implementing the projects under the name &#8220;Community Resilience Enhancement Projects.&#8221; These projects target 950,000 flood-affected people in Aweil who are in need of developmental assistance, based on local reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Chairperson of the Local Government Board in Aweil, Michel Majok Agar, confirmed that the World Bank has provided $150 million to fund emergency responses in the flood-affected states. He added, &#8220;Component 3 in the two counties (Aweil East and Aweil South) of this state has a budget of $7 million.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Agar clarified that the ECRP I project was officially launched in 2022 in Juba and in five other states affected by floods. &#8220;As a government, we are committed to overseeing the successful implementation of this project in Northern Bahr el Ghazal and the other five states and two administrative areas,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For her part, the interim Executive Director of the International Rescue Committee (IRC), Comas Ayella, said, &#8220;Today we are very happy and proud to have launched the resilience program with the Government of South Sudan. This project is supported by the World Bank.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She added, &#8220;The responsibility we carry as IRC is to implement the emergency flood response under the IRC project. This is a great milestone that shows that NGOs and the government can work together to ensure the saving of lives and livelihoods.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Project Manager Guyson Adlkobaa mentioned, &#8220;We are very grateful for the successful launch, and the governor and his deputy graced the occasion.&#8221; He added, &#8220;We congratulate the IRC, who will be implementing this project.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ms. Abour Gordon Nhial, Minister of Peacebuilding and Acting Minister of Local Government, said, &#8220;Attending this launch is historic and will be appreciated by our communities because they have suffered for a long time due to the floods.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She continued, &#8220;Through this resilience project, the lives and livelihoods of our community will improve. This is the goal of our government. Our government must provide services to its people.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ms. Abour also mentioned that the project has alleviated and revived hope among those who lost everything due to the devastating floods, adding that no one expected the response to be so swift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The commissioner of Aweil South County, Luka Thel Thel, stated, &#8220;This project should help our community, especially the local community.
