President Salva Kiir Mayardit participated in an important virtual extraordinary summit with his counterparts from the East African Community member states regarding the escalating situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The summit discussed the growing crisis and ways to find a solution that halts the violence and paves the way for a political process leading to the country\u2019s stability. The meeting, led by Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto, aimed at developing a collective approach to address the serious security challenges and restore order in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a televised speech broadcast by the official Congolese television, President F\u00e9lix Tshisekedi confirmed that the government\u2019s army had repelled an attack by terrorists, referring to the M23 group. He condemned the international community\u2019s inaction over the fighters’ control of areas in the eastern part of the country and warned of the danger of regional escalation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tshisekedi stated, \u201cYour silence and inaction (…) is an insult\u201d to the Democratic Republic of Congo, adding that the advance of fighters backed by Rwanda could directly lead to escalation in the Great Lakes region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The summit discussed the need for collective efforts and solutions to prevent the spread of this war to neighboring countries and established necessary measures to halt the war in the Democratic Republic of Congo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
