The spokesperson for the opposition groups in South Sudan said that the Tumaini Initiativethe Tumaini Initiative has reached a deadlock.
Lual Dau blamed the government delegation, pointing out that the delegation rejected the protocols that had been agreed upon earlier.
The deputy head of the government delegation, Puot Kang, stated to the media that they requested consultations with their leadership in Juba, affirming that the Tumaini peace initiative had not collapsed.
Kang clarified that the government is committed to the peace process. However, Dau claimed that the new government team came with bad intentions to reject the consensus previously reached under the Tumaini Initiative.
Dau noted that the government delegation withdrew from the talks, ignoring the decision and appeal of Kenyan President William Ruto not to allow the negotiations to be adjourned.
During a press conference in Nairobi, Kenya, Dau said:
“The leadership of the South Sudan Opposition Movements Alliance (SSOMA) and other opposition groups would like to inform the people of South Sudan, the region, and the international community that the Tumaini negotiations have reached a deadlock.”
“The new government delegation came with a new position, reneging on the eight protocols agreed upon under the Tumaini Initiative.”, He added
“It is clear that the government has not only changed its delegation but also its position.
