The Security Sector Reform Conference kicked off today in Juba, the capital of South Sudan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Riek Machar Teny, the First Vice President, called on the country’s security organs to double their efforts in implementing the security sector reforms outlined in the 2018 peace agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Machar made these remarks while opening the Security Sector Reform Conference held at the Transitional National Legislative Assembly Hall on behalf of President Salva Kiir Mayardit.<\/p>\n\n\n

The three-day conference, organized by the Strategic Defence and Security Review Board (SDSR-B), aims to address security challenges and provide guidance, policies, and strategies for reform and restructuring, paving the way for a comprehensive transformation of the security sector in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The conference was attended by over 500 participants, including security mechanisms and representatives from regional and international bodies such as IGAD, UNMISS, R-JMEC, the African Union (AU), and other organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n

The Strategic Defence and Security Review Board is one of the security mechanisms tasked with drafting and implementing processes that inform key security sector policies, including strategic security assessment, the security policy framework, revised defense policy, and the transformation of the security sector.<\/p>\n\n\n
