Hope Restoration South Sudan (HRSS), in collaboration with CAFOD and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of South Sudan, has launched a 45-day Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) Preparedness and Response Project, with funding and support from the Start Network.
The project was launched during an inception meeting held in Nimule, bringing together around 30 representatives from government institutions, local communities, and humanitarian organizations. Participants included health officials, border police officers, immigration personnel, community leaders, and humanitarian partners.
The project aims to strengthen early preparedness and rapid response capacity in the event of a potential Ebola outbreak by improving coordination among relevant stakeholders, enhancing community engagement, and ensuring readiness to respond to public health emergencies.
The meeting sessions focused on several key areas, including community engagement, response preparedness, and the pre-positioning of essential supplies and materials, to ensure a rapid response in the event of confirmed or suspected cases of Ebola Virus Disease.
Hope Restoration South Sudan (HRSS) also participated in the preparedness assessment and was selected to lead the Logistics Pillar of the project, based on its level of preparedness and capacity to support response operations.
Participants emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination and cooperation among the Ministry of Health, other government institutions, humanitarian organizations, and local community leaders, noting that such collaboration is essential to enhancing preparedness and ensuring an effective response to public health risks and disease outbreaks.
The project forms part of broader efforts to strengthen the resilience and preparedness of local communities to respond to any potential Ebola Virus Disease outbreak, particularly in border areas that experience continuous movement of people and travelers.
The project is supported by several international institutions, including the IKEA Foundation, Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, and the German Federal Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt), in addition to support from the Start Network.
