The World Health Organization (WHO) in South Sudan conducted a two-day specialized training on preparedness and response to Bundibugyo Ebola Virus Disease (BVD), bringing together 42 health professionals.
The training targeted health workers from the medical facilities serving the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) peacekeeping force, as well as staff from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Clinic.
The training focused on strengthening participants’ capacity to identify Bundibugyo Ebola Virus Disease, implement infection prevention and control measures, and enhance laboratory preparedness, screening and triage, isolation procedures, environmental cleaning, waste management, safe specimen handling, and occupational safety for health workers.
Participants also took part in practical exercises on the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), as well as simulated outbreak-response scenarios designed to strengthen the skills required for early detection of suspected cases, prevention of transmission, and effective response to potential outbreaks.
The World Health Organization said the training is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen preparedness within the health sector and improve its capacity to respond to public health threats, thereby helping protect communities and reduce the risk of infectious disease outbreaks.
