Lawmakers from the Greater Bor region have reaffirmed their full support for the President of the Republic of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, as the country prepares for the general elections scheduled for December. They also emphasized the readiness of the people of Jonglei State to participate actively in the electoral process.
The declaration came during a meeting between President Kiir and a delegation of Greater Bor leaders and legislators, headed by Kuol Manyang Juuk, a member of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) Political Bureau, in Juba. During the meeting, the delegation briefed the President on the latest political and security developments in Jonglei State.
Members of the delegation said the discussions focused on the current situation in the state and ongoing preparations for the upcoming elections, stressing that the people of Jonglei are fully prepared to take part in the polls scheduled for the end of the year.
The delegation commended President Kiir for his continued efforts to promote peace and stability, noting that sustained security is a fundamental prerequisite for successful elections and long-term political stability in the country.
Greater Bor lawmakers also renewed their commitment to supporting the country’s political leadership and working with state institutions to ensure that the elections are conducted in a peaceful, free, and transparent manner, thereby strengthening South Sudan’s democratic process and advancing the aspirations of its people for peace, development, and stability.
South Sudan is preparing to hold its first general elections since gaining independence, with the government and its national and international partners working to complete the political, security, and technical preparations necessary for the successful conduct of the polls scheduled for December 2026.
