Hope Restoration South Sudan, in partnership with Alongside Hope, has conducted a Fisheries Training of Trainers (ToT) program in Adok Payam, Leer County, bringing together 60 participants, including 40 men and 20 women. The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to develop the fisheries sector, strengthen food security, and improve sustainable livelihoods in local communities.
The training program focused on equipping participants with practical knowledge and skills in fish species identification, appropriate fishing techniques, fish preservation and quality assurance, as well as fish marketing, financial management, and sustainable fishing practices.
According to the organization, the project will provide the trained participants with fishing gear to enable them to apply the skills they have acquired. This is expected to increase fish production, improve household incomes, and enhance food security in the targeted communities.
The trained participants are also expected to pass on their knowledge and skills to other fishing groups across Adok Payam, expanding the adoption of modern and sustainable fishing practices throughout the area.
The organization noted that the initiative was made possible through the financial support of Alongside Hope as part of its commitment to strengthening the resilience of conflict-affected communities, supporting economic recovery, and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities.
The initiative is expected to improve the capacity of people engaged in the fisheries sector, increase fish production, enhance food security, and contribute to the economic development of local communities in Leer County.
