The Central Equatoria State Security Committee has approved a series of security measures aimed at strengthening peace, stability, and the protection of civilians across the state during a meeting chaired by Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony.
The committee resolved to reactivate the anti-gang task force to combat the activities of criminal groups locally known as “Niggas,” which have been operating in Juba and several other counties. The move forms part of government efforts to reduce crime and improve the overall security situation.
Regarding civilian protection, the committee directed security agencies to follow up on cases of civilian abductions, particularly in the Gabor area, where rebel elements are suspected of involvement in the kidnappings. According to the committee, approximately 36 civilians were abducted in separate incidents. While 30 managed to escape, six people remain missing. Security forces have been urged to intensify efforts to secure their release and ensure their safety.
The committee also decided to dispatch a team to Mangalla Administrative Payam to address misunderstandings and tensions between the local administration and security forces deployed in the area. The initiative aims to strengthen cooperation and improve relations between civilian authorities and the military.
In addition, the committee emphasized the need to enhance security monitoring and maintain continuous surveillance along major roads, particularly the Juba–Terekeka road. It called on all security agencies to raise their level of preparedness and coordination to prevent potential threats to public safety.
The committee further tasked the relevant authorities with addressing cases of land grabbing and other practices that pose risks to community security and stability.
The Central Equatoria State Government said the resolutions are part of ongoing efforts to restore order, strengthen the rule of law, and ensure the safety and protection of citizens throughout the state.
