The Governor of Central Equatoria State, Emmanuel Adil Anthony, has visited internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Sokare, Liwolo Payam of Kajo-Keji County, where he delivered assorted food assistance, including beans, flour, and other essential items, amid ongoing humanitarian challenges facing communities affected by recent border tensions.
During the visit, accompanied by a government delegation, Governor Adil said the state government is making continuous efforts, in coordination with humanitarian partners, to provide support to the displaced population and ease their suffering. He noted that authorities are working around the clock to mobilize additional humanitarian assistance for those affected by the recent incidents along the border.
Adil further explained that the state government is closely coordinating with the relevant institutions of the national government to find peaceful and sustainable solutions to recurring territorial encroachments along the border, with the aim of promoting security and stability in the area.
The governor also briefed the displaced community on the outcomes of the recently concluded joint border meeting, urging them to respect and implement its resolutions while promoting peaceful coexistence among neighboring communities. He stressed the importance of addressing border-related issues through dialogue and legal means.
Governor Adil reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable groups through the State Ministry of Health and its partners, emphasizing the need to preserve social harmony and defend legitimate rights in accordance with the laws of South Sudan.
For their part, the displaced persons welcomed the governor’s visit and called for continued efforts to de-escalate tensions and restore security so they can return to their homes. They described the visit as timely and reflective of the government’s concern for their situation.
St. Paul’s Cathedral in Sokare currently hosts the largest concentration of internally displaced persons in the area.
