The World Health Organization (WHO) in South Sudan has announced its support to the Ministry of Health in reviewing progress in the implementation of annual operational plans for the health sector for the period 2025–2026 across all ten states of the country, as well as contributing to the development of the first-ever annual operational plans for the three administrative areas.
The support is being provided through the Health Sector Transformation Project (HSTP), as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen health planning and improve the efficiency of health service delivery at both national and subnational levels.
The review process involved representatives from the Ministry of Health, state and administrative area health authorities, and health sector partners. It assessed the level of implementation of current plans, identified key challenges, and developed mechanisms to address barriers to effective execution.
WHO stated that the development of the first annual operational plans for the three administrative areas represents an important step toward harmonizing health planning across the country. This is expected to strengthen coordination between different levels of the health system and ensure that resources are allocated according to actual needs.
The organization added that the review process helped identify priority gaps and accelerate the implementation of urgent health interventions through evidence-based decision-making. This, it noted, supports government efforts to improve health services and strengthen the health system’s capacity to respond to the needs of the population.
