Sudanese Prime Minister Announces Urgent Measures to Address Foreign Exchange Market Distortions and Combat Smuggling

Sudan’s Prime Minister, Dr. Kamil Idris, announced that he chaired an expanded meeting with relevant economic and security authorities to review the country’s economic situation and discuss ways to address current challenges in the foreign exchange market.

In a post on his official account on the platform “X” (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister explained that the meeting discussed urgent measures aimed at correcting distortions in the foreign currency market, combating the smuggling of gold and currencies, and ensuring the availability of foreign exchange to meet legitimate import needs.

Idris emphasized that achieving economic stability is a shared national responsibility, stressing that the government will continue to pursue disciplined economic policies designed to strengthen confidence in the national economy, protect the value of the Sudanese pound, support productive sectors, and uphold the rule of law in service of the Sudanese people.
