The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has announced receiving new funding of €1.5 million from the European Union, aimed at strengthening essential humanitarian services for approximately 350,000 people, including women, adolescent girls, persons with disabilities, and displaced populations in South Sudan.
The project seeks to improve access to reproductive health services, provide “dignity kits,” and enhance responses to gender-based violence (GBV) by supporting health facilities and GBV response service points across several states.
UNFPA stated that the initiative is part of its ongoing efforts and those of its health-sector partners to expand integrated services in sexual and reproductive health, as well as the prevention of and response to gender-based violence, under the framework of the Minimum Initial Service Package (MISP) for crisis-affected areas.
The project will be implemented in the states of Jonglei, Unity, Upper Nile, and Western Equatoria, which are among the regions most affected by conflict and climate-related shocks in the country, contributing to improved conditions for the most vulnerable groups and better access to essential services.
