Bentiu – Al-Wadi Newspaper

As part of its ongoing efforts to promote community peace in South Sudan, the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) organized a broad-based meeting in Bentiu, bringing together youth representatives, women, and community leaders from Guit County in Unity State. The gathering aimed to enhance participants’ skills in conflict resolution, trust-building, and de-escalation of tensions.

The event comes at a time when Unity State continues to experience recurring intercommunal violence, highlighting the urgent need for community-driven interventions to support reconciliation and stability.

Participants responded positively, expressing their commitment to finding locally led solutions to existing disputes. At the conclusion of the session, attendees recommended the convening of a wider peace conference that would include neighboring counties, with the goal of addressing cross-border conflicts and breaking the persistent cycle of violence.

This initiative falls under the umbrella of the United Nations’ “Action for Peacekeeping” (#A4P) agenda, which emphasizes empowering local efforts to build sustainable peace.
