Mudavadi Urges DRC to Honor Ceasefire Agreement with M23 Rebels

Kenya: Regional News

Kenyan Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has called on the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the M23 rebel group to fully commit to the recently brokered ceasefire agreement signed in Qatar. He warned that any breach of the deal could lead to further destruction and economic stagnation.

Mudavadi described the ceasefire as “a critical step toward ending the conflict” and alleviating the suffering of civilians, particularly in the troubled eastern regions that have been affected by unrest for years.

The agreement, mediated by Qatar, includes a commitment to cease hostilities, reject hate speech, and pursue lasting peace. Kenya reaffirmed its support for regional peace efforts, although its role has faced criticism from some parties who accused Nairobi of partiality rather than neutrality.
