Transitional Government Unveils Plan to Revitalize Peace Agreement Implementation by Restructuring SPLM-IO

Juba: Al-Wadi Newspaper

The Transitional Government has announced a plan to revitalize the implementation of the 2018 Peace Agreement, which includes reshuffling positions within the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army in Opposition (SPLM/A-IO). The move could involve the dismissal of First Vice President Riek Machar over allegations of collaboration with the White Army in Nasir County.

According to Martin Elia Lomuro, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, urgent meetings will be held to restructure the SPLM-IO’s representation within the government. The government also plans to review the electoral institutions’ budget and establish a new timeline for the elections scheduled for 2026.

Efforts will be made to accelerate the unification of forces into a single national army. Information Minister Michael Makuei confirmed that Machar’s position could be vacated if the investigation produces sufficient evidence, stressing that his detention does not pose a threat to the peace process.
