Anita Kiki Gbeho, the UN Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, held a meeting with representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF, as well as South Sudan’s Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and the head of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission, alongside officials from the Ministries of Health and Water.
The meeting focused on strengthening coordinated efforts to respond to the ongoing cholera outbreak in the country, particularly with the rainy season approaching. Reports indicate that approximately 49,000 cholera cases have been recorded, with around 920 deaths.
Discussions emphasized the need to enhance collaboration in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3, 6, and 17 to ensure a comprehensive and effective response to combat the disease.
