President Kiir Directs Governor Koang Chuol to End Hostilities in Upper Nile State

President Salva Kiir Mayardit has directed the newly appointed Governor of Upper Nile, General James Koang Chuol, to end the ongoing hostilities and restore peace to the region.

During the swearing-in ceremony of the new governor in Juba on Thursday, President Kiir urged the citizens to abandon cycles of revenge and embrace unity and reconciliation for the benefit of the nation.

Senior government officials and military leaders who attended the event expressed confidence in General Koang Chuol’s ability to address the complex issues facing Upper Nile State, particularly in his hometown of Nasir, which has been a focal point of violence between the military and armed militia groups.

General Koang stated that he would do his best to restore calm by encouraging dialogue with the community to reject violence and adopt the spirit of peaceful coexistence with other communities.

As the governor takes on his duties, all eyes remain on Upper Nile State, with the nation earnestly seeking to restore peace and harmony among the local population.
